About this deal

Overall, I was fairly entertained by this book by Christis Christie and Elle Beaumont; 'The Dragon's Bride'. The story itself was decent. However, there are some issues. First, the pacing seems odd. The entire thing takes place in a matter of a couple of months, most of the time being spent in jumps. It seems as though either the details needed to be greater, or the scope of time needed to be greater. When you focus on that limited of time, it seems like it would be necessary to get down to the fine details. Another issue is the scope of the setting. Nearly everything takes place in a single valley, yet the reader is supposed to be made to believe that the impending peril is overwhelming. The third and probably largest issue I found was that there were occasions when the grammar and syntax seemed to change jarringly for a few sentences. I don't know if this is caused by having two authors contributing, or if it was added to make the book seem more fantastical. Either way, it would completely jolt me out of any level of immersion. Get off your high horse Granger," he said wearily, as he located his shoes and set them on the dresser. "In the real world, yes, even the magical world, people have sex. That's how we make little wizards and witches."

I admit, I didn't really have high expectations from this; the beginning was kind of sketchy and, well, not my type - but that was just the first pov. This fic is fantastic. MIND BLOWING. AMAZING. BEAUTIFUL. And now one of my favourites. Second, the room was in absolute shambles. A chair was overturned in a corner, one leg almost entirely snapped off. The broken leg swung drunkenly in the light, dusty breeze created by the whirring of the ancient air conditioner overhead. When I first started this book, I admit struggled a bit within the first few chapters, having some issues with it being slow at the time. Deciding to give it time a fair shot, I put it down and moved on to other stories before trying again. I'm glad I did. Not very long into the story, the payoff soon shows after "what I thought was" a slow start at all. It was well paced and kept me glued to my screen. This Drakestone had resided in the grand ballroom of Granger Manor for unknown generations, surveying the comings and goings of the family with his inscrutable stone gaze. One of twelve such artifacts, each owned by a different family: the Dragon Houses. Imbued with the Drakestone’s incredible magic, the Dragon Houses were a class beyond regular magical people, so long as they could pay the price.

Quim was quim, Draco told himself, and from the extremely eager state of his penis, this one had been rather good. The grinding of his hips against Granger's dragged the crumpled sheets further under them, offering Draco a first (sober) glimpse of her breasts. I’ve said it before but it’s worth mentioning again. My biggest interest in monster smut is an unrestrained curiosity and titillation. What’s this monster working with? He was a pale boy, but he must have lost two shades of colour in the space of a heartbeat. "Oh, hell," he said, dropping his clothes to the floor. This story really touched me, partially because I went through the bullying thing as a child & turned it around in my late teens. But it's also incredibly well written. The Elders of their community come up with an idea! Rather than their tithe, they will gift him a Bride. And who else to give him, but Imari… the broken one! That will get rid of her, and save them from the Dragon Lord’s wrath, while keeping the stores they have to make it through at least one more year!

Now, to protect all she loves, Imara must work alongside the Dragon Master, or they risk losing everything.

Hermione was mortified. Someone with more experience might have retorted with a couple of choice comments about the bulge in his own robes, but she remained silent, staring daggers at him. The silencing and notice-me-not spells went up first, elementary precautions sufficient to hide her long enough to cast the more substantial rune-work to conceal her completely. Her uncle would not be catching her today. I received an advance review copy from BookSirens (and authors) for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Dragon's Bride really gave me marriage of convenience, monster romance, and "Touch her and I'll unalive you." I had such a fun time reading it; it's a short read full with steam and heat! No plot just smutty vibes, exactly. You get right into the middle of it and I love that because whenever I start reading a fantasy book or any book in particular, you need to wait until like 20% for the story to actually start, but that's not the case with this one. You got away with that when we were children, but slap me again, Granger, and I'll break your fingers. Do you understand?" he threatened. It was quite remarkable. The small, childlike part of him that never failed to be routinely surprised by magic and was sitting up and paying attention. All in all, he was as dishevelled as she had ever seen him, but for some reason, that served to make him all the more intimidating. The veneer of pure blood civility and manners was gone. All that was left was Draco Malfoy and his horrible personality. For a moment, he fought the urge to give in to nausea; the foul taste in his mouth and the stale smell of cigarette smoke and old carpet decidedly not helping matters. Without giving it too much thought, he closed his eyes and pressed his mouth and nose against Granger's hairline, breathing in her scent. Something, anything that would take his mind off his roiling stomach. I like that these five human women agreed to bargains with the demon Azazel. I’m excited to meet the other couples in this series, especially Azazel and Eve.
